a small space that works hard

Benoit had just bought his first apartment in London when he came to me. He had inherited the old owner’s furniture to get him started, but it overwhelmed the space and didn’t allow him to live the way he wanted to.

This wasn’t just a living room space; it also had to function as a dining area and a work space as he worked from home 3 days a week, and loved to entertain friends.

Working with his floor plan and removing all the old furniture really showed me what was possible in this space. He wanted to keep it really light and simple, as the clutter and dark furniture he had been living with were too much. We used some floor-to-ceiling shelves as a bit of a divider in the room between his living and work space, and squeezed in a small dining table.

The sofa fit perfectly, and bringing in a little bit of natural oak in the TV unit helped add some warmth and ground the space.
